This afternoon, 2014 Olympic Ice Dance Champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White announced that they will not be competing at the World Championships in Saitama, Japan at the end of this month.

“Now that we’ve had some time at home to discuss our plan for the rest of the season, we’ve decided not to compete in the 2014 World Championships,” Davis said in a statement released by US Figure Skating. “We’re extremely pleased to have capped-off this Olympic cycle with our performances at the Olympic Games.”

Davis and White are three-time Olympic medalists, winning Silver in the Ice Dance event in 2010 at Vancouver, and Bronze in the inaugural team event at Sochi this past month, as well as their Gold medal in the Ice Dance event in Sochi. White was named Captain of Team USA for the team event.

“We feel that our incredibly positive Olympic experience is the culmination of and perfect ending to a wonderful four-year cycle,” White said in the statement released by US Figure Skating. “We will leave our options open for the future and are excited to cheer on our American teammates as they compete in Japan.”
